HI I am wondering if anybody else has had the same problem as I am having. My Dr. has told me that I need to get some sort of Medical I.D. to wear. because as most of you know that when you have a seizure after you are unable to remember things that are important like where you are and how you got there. My problem is I have looked and look but everything I find is so exspensive. I want to register with the medical alert system which seems like the best way to go because my Dr. would be contacted right away but I can't afford a good bracelet. I don't want something cheep that I will have to replace everytime I turn around, but spending $500.00 is not something I can do.
is there anybody who can recomend a good place to buy a good medical I.D. bracelet or even just the charms?
thank you for any help.

I got mine at www.laurenshope.com they've got ton of different types of bracelets. I wanted something that was nice. They have some that are pearls I think mine was $65 but I like the fact that it looks good with anything. And if you sign up for their emails they send you some for like free shipping.

Have you had a chance to check out http://www.addalinkofcharm.com to see how wonderful their medical alert charms and bracelets are?
Take a look, they also offer a free medical alert bracelet every month!
If you would like to create your own Medical ID you can now select your tag and your bracelet.

Check this site out. They have ones you can put on your shoes laces. Very cheap.
I used Midwest Medical Jewelry and have purchased several items from them and love everyone of them. Plus, it was more affordable then other places I have tried.
Here's their link

We got a medical alert system from Lifestation.com and it didn't cost us anywhere near that $500 dollars you mentioned. They do keep all the records on file and if we press that help button an operator will come on the line to summon help. I suggest you check them out. There are many other alert companies out there, so take your time to compare and contrast.
Try out http://www.AddALinkOfCharm.com they have a really nice selection of Medical Alert Italian Charms, and Bracelets. Also they are giving away a free medical alert bracelet one a month for the entire year.
I happened to stumble on this forum, and wanted to let you know that my company manufacturers medical jewelry and we are in the process of adding pre-engraved epilepsy jewelry. I hope this helps. You can google our company name. It is Sticky Jewelry. Lori, CEO
There is stainless steel classic medical ID bracelet on sale for $10.99 at www.idtagsonline.com untill end of February. It has a tag with embossed medical emblem and tarditional chain.
This includes shipping and 5 lines of engraving and custom length of chain!
So, not a bad deal.
Make your own. I made a necklace tag. You can use the clear plastic luggage tags or laminated cards (you can find them at places that sell printer paper.) Once you print out what you want it to say if you use the laminated card it goes in there and you seal it by ironing it. My card says my medical condition, name address, doctors name, contacts and that I have a Vagus nerve stimulator. I even have the directions for how to activate the VNS with the magnet I wear. I have this card on a lanyard around my neck.
My Father asked me what I wanted from 'Santa' this year, and I told him to let 'Santa' know I only wanted 2 things, 1. To not have a seizure on X-mas Day, &, 2. an I.D. Bracelet.
I've been wearing medical alert bracelets for nearly 10 years and I now have a really nice one for only 25 bucks. It's nicer than the one I used to have that I got for 125. With the company medic alert the cheapest bracelet is only 20 bucks. My dad said you can also get them pretty cheap at drug stores
You may check www.idtagsonline.com.
They offer inexpensive stainless steel models.
I wear one, which I bought at CVS for about $10.00. Most people mistake it for a watch. I think it is a really good idea to wear one, better safe than sorry.
You can find medical alert bracelets on ebay under italian charms. My husband has epilepsy and he hates wearing bracelets. He likes this one alot better it is easy to get on and off. My mother also wanted won for her medical condition and she likes it alot better than the ones from the stores. It runs about $5-10. and you can add other italian charms on it.
I use MedicAlert. I have had the same bracelet since 2005 and it is still holding up, though there was a thick plasticesque material on the front to protect the logo that is chipping, granted it's older so I'm not complaining.
Recently I also invested in a thumb drive that has all of my information on it from Medic Alert as well that was around $50.00 with shipping and taxes and everything.
Hello,
Ive bought a medic alert braclet for 80 dollars that is solid sterling silver which would last a long time!
It is sort of like in investment but its really nice. They do have some for 500 but those are gold or gold and silver together.
There is another place called American Medical ID that makes a really nice silver necklace in gold or silver that is the size of a nickel, and engraved on the back with the medical symbol on the front in a nice embossed style. Those are nice but i think they are just not starting to use a filing system as well similar to medic alert- i went with both actually. But just Medic Alert has a file on me.
Medic Alert seems to be the best- and the first set up in the states, i believe- plus you can modify tou file every time it changes.
Take care!

Here are 2 places that provide good jewelry - at all different prices. You can get basic, fancy jewelry, or sportsbands. With both of these you can store health history with them so if it's needed in an emergency, it can be available... Using one of these is better than just buying one at a pharmacy - at least that is my personal opinion...

Hi all,
While I was shopping for a medical alert bracelet for my son (8 years old), and came across Tottoos.org on the internet. I purchased them, and he loves them. It's not an "everyday" use solution, as it is a temporary tattoo decal, but I figure if he likes wearing it, it's worth it.
The decals stayed on pretty much for up to a few days, and I had it say whatever I wanted. What's good is that it's not the tiny, tiny prints on the bracelets, but rather pretty large font. I feel better about it than other things I've tried.
So, if you have a resistance child, this may be a solution for you, especially on trips or whenever he/she is not with you or someone who would know of the medical situation.
good luck!
Gwen
medicalert.org is where most folks get them but they are at drugstores also.i would recomend medicalert since theres more information on the charm along with their phone number and an id where they can find usefule information at a glance.
i bought my bracelet at a jewelry store in 14kt gold, and had it engraved with my meds, then added the 14kt gold charm med-alert saying epilepsy that my sister gave me. this gave me a permament piece of jewelry that looks nice and also gives my medical info.
Hi- I just recently had the same problem, I need a medical ID bracelet but did not have a lot of money to spend. I went to a medical supply store and bought one of the traditional medical alert ID bracelets with "epilepsy" engraved on the back for $7.95. Once I get a little more money, I'll probably upgrade, but for now, it does the job. Just look in your phone book under "medical supplies" and start calling to see if they have them.
Good luck!

Both of my kids have the actual MedicAlert bracelets. They have the plain steel ones and we are almost coming up on 1 year. I have not had any problems getting them to wear the bracelets. They are 5 and 3, though, so they are used to mom getting her way! Anyway, one of my concerns with the beaded or charms on the bracelets was if the EMTs would even think twice to check a cutsie bracelet for medical tags. I haven't ever asked anyone but it was always a concern of mine...also, for younger kids...my son runs around pretending it is his Buz lightyear laser beam shotter...so to him it's a toy! I nver let them take them off except for bathtime (when I also wash the bracelets to free them of peanut butter and jelly!). The clasp on theirs is hard to unlatch (for the kids) so I like that they can't take them off on their own...the beaded ones I've looked at all have really simple clasps to undo. I know my son would be taking his off and on and lose it. We started with a bracelet bought from a jewelry store, but the phone number on the back was rubbed off within 6 months. The medic alert on hasn't even shown signs of wear! thought I'd throw in my story! (I think I will get the kids some nice silver or gold ones for times when they need to dress up like Bible class!)
I got mine at Oneida medical jewelry. I ordered a gold filled one (around $50) and it came with a stainless steel "every day" one for only an extra $12. They also have sterling silver and stuff for kids.
They're at http://www.oneida-medical-jewelry.com/
It's a small family place. Good service, and several styles to choose from. They can fit LOTS of info on front and on back.
Dear Juperee,
Thank you for letting all of us know about Oneida medical jewelry. I have added a link to their site on our resources page:

Hi cyndi,im having the same problem as you.let me no if u find a good one
I had some extra money from my sweet parents, and spent 60.00 for a bracelet that's sterling silver. But my main thought was from a gift I'd been given. I received a Christmas present of a dog tag purchased from a kiosk in the mall with my dog's picture on the front(she'd passed away the previous Christmas), but what I noticed was the engraving. The back has her name, the date of her birth and death, and it says: Friend and Protector. It cost about 65.00, but he had the dog's photo engraved on the front, and bought the thickest silver chain he could find. With just name and seizure info engraved on a smaller tag it would be a lot less expensive (and probably very similar to the ones in the wal mart machine).
Hope this helps,
Susan
In New Zealand I paid $145 NZD for my stirling silver medic alert braclet. but the US site says $35 http://www.medicalert.org/home/HomeCatalog.aspx?Catalog=Standard
They are worth it! I had a seizure in Wellington and no on I knew was around me someone called the ambulance and gave them my number. I recieved the best care, and that was before I was even conscious!

I got mine on eBay! It's a sterling silver link bracelet with a sterling silver heart-shaped charm for the medical alert ID. One side of the heart has the embossed medical alert symbol and the other side is engraved with my medical alert info. I even got complimented on my "charm bracelet" by one of my co-workers! Here's a similar one by Creative Medical ID (from whom I got mine):

I was going to get one for my daughter, but ended up getting this one instead. She wears her charm bracelet all the time and it really stands out.

hi my 6 yr old son has seizure and i got a dog tag engraved for him out of a booth in front of walmart. it has spiderman on one side and all the other info on the back. cheap if he looses it and does the trick.

Hi Cyndi,
I bought my son Shawn a charm to wear on a chain around his neck from www.medicalalert.com. He didn't want to wear a bracelet. It has his name the and the kind of seizures he has and other important info on the back. It's 14k gold and beautiful. They have different sizes and prices too. I thought it was important too because he stares into space and has a lapse in memory when he has a seizure and in case he is alone somewhere, I think the medal will be able to be seem on his neck because it has the medical symbol on the front. Good luck Cyndi.
Check out the selection on this site: www.aboutmejewelry.com Be sure to read the "our story" section. This mom started designing medic ID jewelry when her daughter was diagnosed with diabetes. I just ordered two of the bracelets for my teenage son who no longer liked wearing his medic alert bracelet (he liked the cool selection on this site). However, I DO keep his medic alert membership up to date and we put the 800 number and his medic alert ID member number on his new jewelry even though we ordered from outside of medicalert.
If you have uncontrolled seizures...or your child does...I definitely think it is worthwhile to find something you (or your child) WILL wear...and still have the medic alert emergency info available for emergency responders.

I bought a velcro medical bracelet for my son at the local Pharmacy. It is from Vital Id and is waterproof. It has all kinds of colors to choose from and works for my son. He broke so many chains that i had almost given up. This bracelet says "vital medical information inside" When you open the velcro there is a pocket for a waterproof slip of paper tucked inside with dr/medical info on it and you can change the info along with changes in your meds easily. The companies' website is www.vitalid.ca --mamajess
in the avon book last month they had medical alert bracelets that were actually cute, one with blue beads, for $10.00
I think you got 2 of them for that price. check it out.www.avon.com

I ordered an adorable medical ID for my daughter yesterday for $30 from http://www.petitebaublesboutique.com/
I found them from a link at http://www.oneida-medical-jewelry.com/
which had great kid's ID bracelets for the cheapest I could find. I may order the ones to attach to their shoes at some point. You could also attach it to a backpack (they are little plastic disks with all the info on them).
Another thought that is really inexpensive is a pet tag like you get at PetsMart?
