Hi,
I really need some help, I don't know what to do but I find it so hard to function right now after what happened as it was so weird. I don't know if it is epilepsy, or I am just going senile or what.
I was diagnosed with epilepsy 2 years ago at the age of 40. Apparently I had it as a child, but then was fine, and it suddenly reoccured. All that has happened is that I have these periods where I am vacant, or as I call it having a senile moment. Just start talking rubbish and am not really alert and with it, if that makes sense.
Well on Saturday, I was talking to my one friend and I suddenly went off track with our conversation, one minute I was talking to her with regards to my cousin and the next I was talking about a delivery in February. have no idea what this delivery is!!! We hung up and honestly, had she not told me what happened, I would be none the wiser. Then a while later, I was talking to another friend and just hung up on her, I don't recall doing it and she simply thought I had a faulty line (she does not know that I have problems)
But now comes the part that has really, really, freaked me out. All of these conversations took place in the morning and I must have had a shower in the morning and hopefully got dressed, but I cannot find my towel anywhere. i don't know where I have put it, if I threw it out in the trash which was collected that morning or what is going on. So now I am freaking about what caused that to happen.
I am ready to give up on all of this. It is so embarrassing. Is it really epilepsy? I am afraid to work, what if I embarass myself at work. Has any one else experienced these moments of being totally vacant, not recalling what they have done and all of a sudden losing items of clothing

hello happygirl
I have expirenced similar things when I was younger, like loosing track of time and forgetting whole conversations and forgetting i've said things, and I am always loosing things. I believe that most of that is epilepsy as certain types of epilepsy as in complex partial seizures you do things without knowing it and it takes someone else to tell you what you did, anything with lose of awareness. Are you being treated with any type of aniepileptic because if not that might make a difference. I hope that I was of some assistance to you.

Hello,
i'm not really sure if what you're dealing with is epilepsy, but I can relate a tiny bit. I have petit mal (partial) seizures and I have no idea what goes on during them. My family say that sometimes I sway and hum and one time I was breathing really heavy and my armed raise. The scariest thing had to be my car accident. I started having seizures about 5 years ago, my sophomore year of high school. We thought my seizures were under control so my dad bought me a car. On the way home from school, I turned the corner and had a seizure. I hit a telephone pole and flipped my car. I didn't know the car was upside down until I got out. I don't even remember the process of the car hitting the pole and the car flipping over. I don't even know how I got out. i just remember everything being dark and rolling out onto the ground. It was just about the scariest thing I've ever gone through and I am so lucky that I made it out alive. I have never really heard of anything involving your situation, but definitely talk to someone about it. Good luck.

Hi,
I've had epilepsy all 69 1/2 years of my life and have tried to help others learn and understand it, so that they too can live as happy and normal life as possible. First, from what you describe, it does sound like you may have what are known as complex partial seizures or seizure activity. The reason for that assumption is that "almost always you are left in a somewhat confused state and it takes a while for your system (brain) to get back to normal operation."
I would strongly urge you to make an appointment with a neurologist or epileptologist, as they are most competant in handling these types of situations. There is no reason to be afraid or worry, even if they suggest having an electrencephlogram (or charting of your brain waves) or MRI, which they can often determine the need for after a neurological examination.
Even if it is concluded or diagnosed that you do have epilepsy, "it is simply a disorder that we have and have to live with; other people have disorders of muscular distrophy, polio, high blood pressure, etc." and we all come to learn how to live within the means that our disorder poses to us." With epilepsy, we learn by understanding the items that can trigger (cause) a seizure, like depression, anxiety, fear, bright lights, lack of adequate sleep, hyperventilation, and many other items that differ between each of us.
Keep your head up high and pursue the items you most desire in your life; don't hold back from being a normal person, the only thing people with epilepsy and disabilities often have to change is their manner of operation in pursuit of what the normal person achieves.
Good Luck, and if I can be of any further help, my website is: irvingkay1@netscape.com
