Parietal and Occipital Lobectomies

The parietal (puh-RI-uh-tul) and occipital (ok-SIP-ih-tul) lobes are located in the back of the brain (see diagram). A parietal lobectomy or occipital lobectomy is surgery to remove part of one of these lobes. Most of the time, this kind of surgery is performed when an area with abnormal structure has been identified in that lobe. This kind of surgery is more likely to be successful when it involves a structural abnormality.
